Biography

Mr. Brainwash — the alias of Thierry Guetta (French, b. 1966) — is one of the most talked-about figures in contemporary street and pop art. Born in France and based in Los Angeles, he began as an obsessive videographer documenting the underground world of street artists, a journey that became the subject of Banksy's Oscar-nominated 2010 film Exit Through the Gift Shop and propelled him to overnight fame and no small amount of art-world debate.

Street-Pop Style & Influences

Working under the tag "MBW," he builds boldly colored, irreverent images that remix pop-culture icons, art-history touchstones, and advertising in the lineage of Andy Warhol and Banksy. His signature blends spray paint, stencil, silkscreen, and collage, often splashing drips of vivid color across instantly familiar faces — a Warholian sensibility filtered through street-art energy. Provocative, playful, and unmistakably of the moment, his large-scale shows have drawn enormous crowds in Los Angeles, New York, and beyond.

Collecting Mr. Brainwash

For collectors, his signed, limited-edition prints and silkscreens are the accessible entry to one of the most visible names in twenty-first-century street-pop — bold, graphic, and built to command a wall.
